1994 Apartheid,Capetown

1989年に起きた天安門事件、最悪だった。すぐ隣の国で起きている惨事に手も足も出ないのだと思い知らされ涙した。
同じ年ベルリンの壁は崩壊、冷戦が完全に終結して世界の全てが良い方向に向かうような希望に満たされたもんだ。
この年、南アフリカ共和国はデクラーク大統領の就任と共にアパルトヘイト撤廃へと進み始めたのだ。
写真はその約五年後、ANCのネルソンマンデラの大統領就任に沸き立つケープタウン市民の踊り回る様子。
さらにその10年後再び訪ねたケープタウンには、新しいアフリカンカルチャーの誕生を強く感じた。
タウンシップの貧困ぶりは何の解決もしないものの次期ワールドカップ開催地でもあるRSAに期待しているが、今世界中で次々と起こる対立や内戦紛争は、増えているようにすら感じる。
呑気な僕が、バクダッド観光旅行に行けるのはいつだろうか？

Cape Town was one of the most beautiful cities that I have ever seen. Especially, as I was flying into the city from the dry land of Namibia, the landscape of the Table Mountain covered with spring green grass looked like heaven. Driving back from the Cape of Good Hope, the sunset was absolutely gorgeous and every moment in this city seemed perfect till I misread the map and wandered into a narrow street. I suddenly found myself in a black people’s district. Small shells of homes were cluttered together; they had no adequate electricity nor sewage. Then I remembered, this country abolished apartheid only about 10 years ago. Again, I suddenly found myself back into a reality.
