1970年代は、水俣病、イタイイタイ病に代表される公害病、光化学スモッグ等、生活の中に実感として存在する環境破壊の脅威を皆が身近に感じていた。
現在の温暖化の問題はそれに比べると非常に実感し難い物だと感じる。暖冬もその表れだけれど、暖かくって助かるとか、雪かきしないで良いので楽だ等と都合良く解釈する人も居るかも知れない。
ニュース番組の街頭インタビューは、「庶民レベルでの景気対策を政府に望む」等の経済問題の危機感を語る人が今もって多いが、これは例えて言うなれば「墜落しようとしている旅客機の乗客が、機内食が不味い、ビジネスクラスの飯を俺達にもよこせ！」と言っている様に見えてしまう事があるのは私だけだろうか。

Standing on the tip of Cape of Good Hope, a local lady said to me, “Nature is the best beauty.” We were looking over at whales dancing in the Indian and Atlantic Ocean, and the view was indeed very beautiful. Yes, I do think the nature is the “best” and we must try to preserve it as we have done with the most beautiful lady, Monalisa.
