Punta de Maisi,Baracoa

ハバナの美しい町並みやサルサで語られるキューバとは又違ったキューバの原風景が広がるマイシ岬は東端の古都バラコアからさらに東へ進んだ場所だ。辺りは本当にジャングルで、馬に乗り腰から山剣を下げ帽子を被った男たちが、開拓時代さながらに家畜を飼って暮らしているそうだ。
そして、バラコアはチョコレート発祥の地でもあるらしい。「チョコラーテ」と呼ばれる小さなちまきの様な物だが中には砂糖とカカオを練り合わせた様なチョコレートの原型が包まれている。街道沿いの道端で売っているんだが、もし手に入ればバレンタイン用にはお勧めだ

キューバの歴史は、コロンブスのキューバ発見場所マイシ岬から始まったと言っても過言ではない。
コロンブスが船の上から最初に発見したと言う「マイシ岬」はキューバの歴史に残る地名だ。

A glimpse of Punta de Maisi, where Columbus first landed in Cuba, was like a time trip into a colonial history. Without enough time, I couldn’t allow myself to explore to the point, yet the entrance to Maisi is unforgettable. The village still lives as if it is in its history. Chicks and dogs run wildly on red soil where moss green trees grow tall as a jungle. People sit in front of their small wooden houses doing chores and enjoying sun. Men transport some goods and rice on mares that almost stop on climbing steep hills. Utterly beautiful village.
