インドの南部は共産党が強く支持されている。インドで共産主義？と思う人も居るかも知れないけど、社会制度と宗教が深く絡み合うインドではコミュニズムに支えられた社会でなければ、浮上できない人々が沢山いるのだ。
宗教にしてもしかりで、仏教発祥の地、そしてヒンドゥ教の信者が殆どのこの国でも、漁村等は殆どがクリスチャンだったりする。既存の社会構造と決別する為には、信仰の問題も付いて回るのだ。
旅先で出会った若者は、チェ・ゲバラが自分たちのヒーローであると熱く語った。「共産主義」という言葉から「全体主義」、とか「粛清」等暗いイメージを持つ人もいるが、彼らの自由と平等な社会理想を語る姿に僕たちが失ってしまった「社会の見るべき夢」を感じた。

I was surpised to hear an Indian college student passionately stating, "We are someday going to be the Red." Still to this day, the caste system is strongly influencing the country and the minds of people, and as a country fastly the chasing the capitalism as one of the strongest BRIC's, I didn't imagine anyone having an eutopia as a communist system. Yet, it sounded so fresh to me, because that the time when young people fought for some forms of idealism is long gone in Japan. It actually made me happy to meet people trying to fight for a better community than apatheism.
