Take the A Train,Sri Lanka

僕は、旅先で鉄道を使えるときは出来るだけ乗ってみる事にしている。
鉄道の旅は、観光名所にはないその土地土地のリアルな生活を感じ取れるからだ。
列車の中には色々な物を売りにやってくる、食べ物や飲み物、土産物や新聞・宝くじのような物、又流しのバンド等も乗ってくる。男も女も小さな赤ん坊も、ヨボヨボの老人も乗ってくる。革靴を履いた人も裸足の人も乗ってくる。
そして時には知らないオヤジが僕の膝の上に座ったりもする。大雨の中も、カンカン照りの中も僕達を乗せて列車は走る。昼も夜も僕達を乗せて。

Taking a train in Sril Lanka was quite nostalgic. As the train approaches to a platform, people began to run and jump in to get the best seats. The floor is wooden and glass windows can be opened (not anymore in Tokyo). As I take a seat, a boy comes with a big basket full of candies. Then a man with fruits, breads, masala beans and even curry packs! Then, a lady starts to sing and her children asks for some chips. I thought this was nostalgic, but I was watching a TV program showing a small train in Aomori. There was even a stove in a train and old men were roasting some squids! Well, the train trip can be a marvelous experience every where in the world.
