建築やインテリアに高級感を求める人は多いが、高級感は価値であって、価値観じゃないと思う。
設計者や所有者のインテリジェンスを感じさせるのは、高級感とは異なった価値観じゃ無いだろうか。
「人柄を感じさせる」等と言うが、人を包み込む建築物に陳腐化しない価値観がしっかり有ればその建物は少しずつ手直しされながら時代を超えて行けるだろう。
大企業の好景気が背景なのか、都市部の再開発建設ラッシュだ。60年代や70年代の建物だけでなく、商業地域では80年代のビルディングも次々と解体されている。歴史的価値のある建物も問答無用に解体される様は、経済的効率だけで突き進む非情な資本主義の原理でしかない。
その後完成する建築物の30年後はどんな都市景観に辿り着く事だろうか。
Kandalama Hotel built by G. Bawa stands in a middle of hot dry prarie. The building itself holds natural rocks as a part of structure and plants are grown on the building that it looks like the ancient cave on a giant rock. I was stunned by the beauty of the building that it is totally melted in a natural scene of Danbulla. “How does a man come up with this kind of superb idea?” As I questioned, my eyes caught a small glimpse of Sigiria, the World Heritage, from the foyer of the hotel. Sigiria is a castle built on top of a huge natural rock where paintings of beautiful women smile at the mirror hall. Then I realized, Kandalama Hotel is a modern version of Sigiria. It is a building of nature.
