One summer night, I got off at an illegible tram station in Istanbul, and wandered into a dark park where I found groups of people sitting under trees smoking water pipes. For a moment, it seemed somewhat immoral, but as my eyes got used to the sight, none of them were drinking alcohol and they were just enjoying talking and playing board games. Most of them were young adults, but there were even old men and women and sometimes even kids in those groups. Smoking has become an “enemy” in my country, but it seems a good “friend” in Turkey. It’s true, the night park was peaceful without any drunken people shouting and vomiting in bars of Tokyo.
